Have you fought for that window seat or felt bad because you didn’t get one when travelling by air? Most of us who have been in an aeroplane have done this sometime or the other. The good news is, these fights would soon become a thing of the past! Unbelievable? Yes, it is.
A British research and technology firm, Center for Process Innovation, is striving towards changing air travel’s future by developing windowless planes. There would be OLED touchscreens all along the length of the plane instead of small windows. This is like WOW! Everyone on the plane would essentially get to have a window seat then. No fights!
It may well be hoped that this would become a reality in another 10-15 years time.
The idea is to install many cameras all over the plane’s exteriors and the recorded images would be streamed on these screens. This would realistically show the passengers a view of everything going on outside the plane.
What if you get tired of the sky? Well, even that’s thought of! These digital windows could easily be transformed into entertainment systems, where you could watch movies or anything you like. The possibilities are endless!
Now, are you thinking what this OLED technology is? It’s the abbreviated form of
This is not something as abstract as it may sound. Most of the present day smartphones, television screens, tablets, and computer screens are made using this very technology. It is very likely that the present state of the OLED will have evolved a great deal by the time these planes are actually out in the market.
Every seat in the windowless plane would then be a ‘good’ seat.
As the scientists claim, the real world outside would be exactly reflected as it is on these screens. It is quite obvious that such a notion would inspire quite a lot of conspiracy theories surrounding this idea.
Just like everything else, this technology would of course not be ‘all good’, as it may now seem. Concerns have been raised with regard to the discomforts the passengers might face due to immense light from all these screens. However, the up-side remains that if such a technology could, in fact, be actualized and made accessible, it will not be a lot of trouble to tackle the issues that it may raise in its turn. Yet, nothing could be ascertained until this dream becomes a reality. For now, we should rather enjoy the wonderful dream that this is!
