When the family of Christian thought to move back to Germany in 2013, his mother showed him some brochures from schools to choose together where would he go.
In one of these leaflets, Christian saw a picture with a bench in the schoolyard. It was called “buddy bench” and it could sit any child feel alone at the break, giving a signal to the other children to come and play with them.
Christian became fascinated with the idea and when the family finally choose to stay in the USA, he decided to put his own school a “buddy bench.”
” I did not see any children to be themselves at recess, while all the others play with their friends, “says Christian.
So he proposed his idea to the school’s principal and the two immediately worked to establish such a bench at school. Today, about 2,000 in all United States schools have bench buddies and Christian travels across the country to launch this brilliant idea!
It is a simple and effective idea that combats loneliness that some children may feel at school. A place that indicates to others that want to hang out with them but maybe you don’t know how to approach.
