Every single day, we take it for granted that we can see. We are perfectly made, able to see our amazing life around us, our family and our natural surroundings. Life is different for some, however, especially Gene Purdie.
The reasons life is so different for Gene is that he suffers from Stargardt’s disease. This disease causes blindness, only giving the ability to see outlines of objects and people. Gene Purdie never had the chance to see his child’s face, nor his wife. He was never even able to see the smiles on his parent’s faces. But that was about to change.
Rachel Ray invited Purdie on her show, interrupting his traditional life in the darkness. Ray had a gift for him, a pair of eSight glasses which gave Purdie the ability to see things for the first time. When he put the glasses on his face, he look at his wife and smiled. It was the first time he had ever seen her.
Obviously, Gene Purdie will never forget this moment! One of the best parts about the whole experience is Gene gets to keep the glasses to continue seeing things for the first time!
