A new experiment is set to change the human aging process. It’s aimed to replicate conditions of a stem cell through the expressions of genes irregularly – for the reversible process of aging and its signs.
The Salk Institute’s researchers and scientists are undertaking an experimental feat, where they’re preparing to stop or reverse the aging process at the cellular level. The signs of aging are visible – wrinkled skin, gray hair, along with various diseases. Scientists have been studying the process of aging and how it happens due to cells.
The Salk Institute’s scientists and their research are designed to look into the chances of stem cell-like conditions and their replications via irregular gene expressions. It is related to the embryonic state.
Juan Carlos Izpisua Belmonte – a senior author from the Salk Gene Expression Laboratory, said that their aging research and studies might not move in a single direction. And it is due to plasticity. However, signs of aging can be reversed if modulations are done with a lot of caution and care. You can find the research of the Team in Cell (journal).
The experts caused cellular rejuvenation by reprogramming cells that are known to activate impressions of the Yamanaka Factors – four genes. The process involves the conversion of cells into iPSCs or pluripotent stem cells. The experiment has been able to deliver positive results.
Alejandro Ocampo – who is the first author of the paper and a research associate – says that they have observed that induction of cellular reprogramming makes cells appear younger than before. However, they wanted to understand and know, whether they can follow this process on animals or not.
