In this footage from Poetry of Science speech, Neil deGrasse Tyson brings up the question ” who are we to say we are intelligent?”.We define ourselves as intelligent, but are we really? Is it possible for other species to accept our intelligence?
With our closest relatives, the chimps , we share 99% identical DNA structure but the 1% makes the differnce for our intelligence. With that difference we are able to compose symphony or build the Hubble Telescope.
If we could communicate with other species that has that same 1% difference in DNA, how would we look to them? Our smartest humans would do what their toddlers can do. Would they consider us as intelligent?
This is possible to be the reason why we don’t have contacts with alien species, maybe they looked upon us and saw that there is no interest in a planet with no sign of intelligent life.
