We are going through a tough time, maybe for the first time in human history. We are the ones who can bring about a change in the world today by isolating ourselves. But, there is a silver lining to this isolation. As human beings, we can all take a few days of rest. We can introspect to find out who we are and how we can shape our lives in the future. We can eventually start to love ourselves for who we actually are, and be happy.
Here are a few ways in which loving ourselves can start benefiting who we are:
1. Having ownership over ourselves
When you rest and fall in love with yourself, you become happy. At that moment, you can own yourself. You start feeling responsible for your mistakes and successes. You feel proud of your accomplishments and work to learn from the failures. You don’t blame them anymore. At this moment, you become a better person, driving yourself to success.
2. Adding value to society
Once you are happy, you start seeking for a new society around yourself. You will find people who are actually going to help you, push you beyond your limits to be better. On the flip side, you will be contributing to society as well. You will not only be happy but you will also share your positive side with the world and bring about change through your positive vibes. It’s a two-way process bringing the best in you and the best around you.
3. More learning
For happy people, getting a degree is not the end-all and be-all of learning. They know that education is equivalent to enrichment, and enrichment can never end. They will always find new ways to enrich themselves – through new hobbies or crafts. They might be in a good career and be happy in it, and yet, they might go out and become a gym trainer just because they love to exercise. They can complete thick books, even academic ones, without a worry. They use education as a way to find fulfillment in their lives.
4. One life
People in love with themselves know that they have only one life, and they can’t waste their time. So, if they are going through a tough phase and have encountered repeated failures, they will try to find a way out of it, no matter how. They are not going to waste time wallowing and complaining about it. They know that if one door closes for them, another opens – that there is abundance in the society as a whole. Since they have this confidence that despite any setbacks, life has enough opportunities which they can take up any moment, they are always in a happy mood.
5. Having control
Many of us may end up in situations where we feel like we do not have any control. But the problem occurs when we just crash down as we try to grapple at some form of control, despite knowing that we can’t do anything about it. For example, if there is an economic crisis and you lose your job, it is something beyond your control. Happy people do not try to seek control of everything. They know when to drop control. If things are beyond their control, they will only try to change what is within their hands – like upskilling themselves when job opportunities are low.
6. Prioritizing health
While we may know of the proverb ‘health is wealth’, we do not really follow it that much. We are always trying to get richer and better materialistically, without giving much thought to our health. People who love themselves and are happy focus a lot on their health. They are always exercising to keep their blood flowing, and often meditate to take care of their mental health. So, if you feel broken during this period, start focusing on your health.
7. They know that they are enough
Happy people are people who know themselves and love who they are. They have recognized their potential. They do not run after any kind of perfection – they know perfection doesn’t exist. But they also know that they are unique, and they are good enough. They do not need any validation from others. Their own validation is enough for them.
