Internet Trolls – Who they are?
An internet troll is a person who invites themselves into a discussion and posts comments meant to upset or insult the people involved in the discussion. There seems to be no real motive other than to offend the people around. They can go to any extent to get a reaction.

Some Canadian researchers conducted two online tests with 1200 people. Each participant had to take a personality test and there was also a survey about their internet commenting behavior. The researchers wanted to see if trolling was linked to the ‘Dark Tetrad’ of behavioral traits; Machiavellism, Narcissism, Psychopathy, and sadism.
It was found that people who claimed to enjoy trolling had the highest Dark Tetrad scores. As a matter of fact, the study showed a huge difference in the scores between a normal person and an internet troll. The study charts prove that these people who enjoy insulting and humiliating others on the internet have scored really high on all four traits. There is such a significant connection between trolling and the Dark Tetrad that the authors concluded in their paper that internet trolls are undoubtedly “prototypical everyday sadists”, going so far as to specifically highlight it.
