The German company Adidas will make available to the market this year sports shoes and clothing collection made from plastic waste, which were saved from the oceans.
“The idea is to develop recycled materials that have the same characteristics as the new materials,” explained Frank Hencke, responsible Social and Environmental issues of the company.
The company explores various fields and collaborates with partners such as BASF, the German chemical industry. A first step would be to look in the shops this year products made from plastic bags that were saved at sea, which constitute a scourge for the environment.
Adidas wanted to proceed further and develop recycled material indefinitely. “The goal is to complete the circle” says Hencke.
The group is working hard to raise its image as a responsible producer and employer. In the past, Adidas’s by revelations about labour conditions of subcontractors, especially in Asia. Adidas unveiled this week its strategy for sustainable development, in which they emphasis to reduce the water consumption in the production chain.
