The little tasks that you perform every day have a great impact on your overall wellbeing. Things like not getting enough sleep on a regular basis can you leave you worn out and irritable but you just see it as something everyone does.
The truth is that these toxic habits are bad for you and they need to be changed:
1. Preventing Sneezes
When you stop yourself from sneezing, you are essentially preventing an entire organ system from functioning properly. Sneezing ensures that you get rid of some harmful microorganisms. Keeping a sneeze in only locks them up inside your body so that they can wreak havoc.
2. Picking Your Teeth
While using a toothpick is a generally accepted habit, it doesn’t actually do much for you. Besides getting out bigger pieces of food, it doesn’t really clean your mouth and it hurts your gums in the process. Dental floss is a more effective and much healthier alternative.
3. Lying On Your Stomach
Sleeping in this position prevents you from breathing properly and it puts pressure on your spine. Moreover, it also creates wrinkles on your face. While some might find it easier to sleep this way, it isn’t worth it because of the issues it can create with your respiratory system and spinal cord.
4. Gum
Constantly chewing away at gum can wear away the enamel covering your teeth. Holding things that aren’t edible in your mouth affects your oral health in general.
5. Holding It In
When nature calls, you must answer. Otherwise, the whole process of excreting waste is thrown off and everything from your bladder to your stomach will feel the pressure. It is better to finish off these things fast so that you don’t regret it when you grow older.
6. Pouring Steaming Water On Your Head
While there’s nothing as comforting as a hot shower on a wintry day, you should try to avoid getting your head wet. The warmth of the water makes the pores on your scalp bigger and aggravates hair loss and dandruff.
7. Putting Your Hands On Your Face
It might seem like a very ordinary thing to rub your eyes or to touch your face in general. But the dirt and germs that spread from your hands to your face can cause pimples and eye infections. You’ll experience irritation in those areas.
8. Lying Down To Read
Reading while lying down can be very comfortable but you’re messing up your sight, your spine, and your neck by doing so. All this combined can age your looks faster. It is also important that you don’t keep your eyes too close to the pages.
9. Talking In Whispers
As necessary as it may be at the time, this actually puts more pressure on your vocal cords than you think it does. It’s always better to speak at your normal volume.
This list is surprising because most of these habits are the ones we take for granted. But just because they’re socially accepted doesn’t mean that they’re good for you. It’s important to watch out because all these little things could create much bigger problems in the future.
