Parents are one of the most important people in your life. They have taken care of you all the time when you were growing. They have formed your character and have developed who you are. Whenever a parent calls, you have to heed their call – they matter too much to be ignored. Yes, you may have moved out of their house and live alone or as a couple now. But they are still the most valuable people in your life.
But you know well that one day, they too, like all of us, will give away their last breath and leave this earth. You are probably not prepared for it. But suddenly, you will realize that they have disappeared from your life – never to come back again. You won’t hear their call anymore. Their sweet voice from the other side of the phone would never come to your ears – however long you might wait.
If you lose a mother or father, you will probably go through these emotional changes:
1. Changes the way you live
You may have been following a life that your parents denied. You were the rebel. But now, when they are gone, you will learn the value of their advice. You will now follow what they had wanted you to do.
2. Loneliness will finally come upon you
You had known your parents from the day you were born. If one of them leaves the world, you will suddenly feel terribly lonely. You don’t know who you are anymore. Other people will also seem like distant objects to you. They are walking around you but you cannot interact with them.
3. Missing Something
A significant part of you is lost. And you don’t know how you will gain it back. Even when you are moving forward, you still have the feeling that something is not right. There’s a void inside you, which you know can never be fulfilled.
4. Your accomplishments no longer matter
Even though your accomplishments are for you, only your parents are there to support you. They will cheer you and their voice, congratulating you, will cheer you up. But when they are gone, there is no support, no congratulations, no happiness in those lost voices. Accomplishments lose their meaning when your parents are no longer with you.
5. Breaking down
Memories will not leave you. There will sudden moments when you start to cry about your parents. You may wake up with tears in your eyes. You don’t really know how you will control yourself.
6. Never Getting Over It
They say time heals everything. But getting over your parent’s death is something that even time fails to tackle. You can’t change the deadly memory, nor can you restructure your life, so much of which revolved around them. Maybe time will lower your pain, but it won’t take it away.
7. The World Perishes
The world just perished for you. Once one of your parents passes away, a part of your entire world is lost. Since each part is connected, your world crashes. You become a different person. You don’t know how to put life together again.
8. Jealousy
Other people who still have their parents will make you jealous. You know that they are lucky to still have them around. You go to them and often tell the, how lucky they are and that they should spend more time together.
9. Regret
Finally, you will look back in your life and start regretting every bit of the mistakes that you made. You would want to go back in time and do things differently. You wish you had spent more time with your parents. But now, it’s impossible… so very impossible.
Let time lower your pain. Death is natural. Wherever your parents are, they are still smiling at you. After all, parents love you, always. Anything you might be doing doesn’t take away that love from them.
