One might not always know and understand but jealousy can potentially ruin lives. Sometimes, we are not even aware that someone might be jealous of us and this often leads to bigger problems than jealousy itself.
Jealousy makes people forget who they really are and they end up doing things that they regret. These people may be close to you and it is your responsibility to help them do better.
Following are a few ways to understand if someone is jealous of you and how you can help them:
1. Fake compliments
One can always tell when compliments that come their way really mean anything or not. When someone gives you too many compliments that they don’t mean, they are probably jealous of you and the only way to help them is by giving them real compliments and balancing the situation out.
2. Your successes are theirs
When you get somewhere and do something that deserves applause, they seem to make everything about them, about how they could have done it better and in lesser time or that they themselves taught you what to do. The solution, in this case, is to keep a positive face and deal with it smiling widely.
3. They make your achievements unimportant
If you worked hard to get a promotion but then Sandra from HR keeps saying that you only got it because someone else quit, that is jealousy right there! The key is to take it all in sport and just make a joke out of the situation. The person will understand that you are unaffected by their negativity.
4. Unhealthy competition
Everything has become a competition for them and they think that life itself is a big competition. These people become petty and try to sabotage everything you do but you have to be the one to make them realise that not everything is a competition and you just want to have a good time.
5. They copy you
Everything you do- they follow. Even if it is new clothes! They will not miss out the smallest of details. I understand that this might get annoying and infuriating sometimes but that will not solve anything. You have to calmly approach this matter and tell them how original and special they are so that they learn to be their own person instead of emulating you.
6. Your failures bring them joy
They find happiness and joy when you fail. You have to find it in yourself to have a smile on your face even when you do not succeed.
7. Gossip
Well, this is the most common one. You know what it is and how it works. You have to make sure to not pay any heed and do your thing.
