Advice is never accurate because everyone’s context is different. Ask any two people about the same situation and their advice might not even be the same even though both of them are intelligent and what not
When it comes to relationships, it is very crucial that you don’t follow any advice blindly. Sometimes people are mistaken, nobody knows the whole story like you do, and sometimes they are just plain vindictive.
So here are 7 kinds of worst advice people give and which you should avoid:
1. You can find someone better to move on from this person
If you are looking for some sort of gains from a relationship, maybe you should instead be looking for a business partner. Having this attitude won’t let you hold on to any relationship ever because there will always be people who look better, earn better etc, but they might not love you better than your partner.
2. Don’t let them boss you around, take control
This is the most outdated piece of crap. Relationships are based on mutual respect not on who is better. Moreover, everyone is better at something and each should take charge of their field of expertise and not listen to naysayers.
3. Demand that they show you how much they love you by romantic gestures
Overtly romantic gestures are a part of the honeymoon phase of any relationship. They will fade too as you progress through your relationship and reach new milestones.
4. Don’t increase conflicts further. Keep your quiet
Don’t let your feelings bottled up inside you to the point that one day it all bursts out simultaneously. Always communicate with your partner whenever something is bothering you. By not communicating, you are not sacrificing yourself for the sale of the relationship; you’re just making a ticking time bomb which will go off in the future.
5. You have every right to go through their personal communications
No and no. Respecting their privacy is not an option. Keeping tabs on their calls and chats and asking them to always be on your radar is the first step towards the total deterioration of the relationship.
6. Don’t let him forget that he’s nowhere near earning enough
This is not something that you bring up every chance you get. And definitely not something to be used during a big fight.
7. See how I handle my relationship
Never think that just because someone else is happy you need to follow their example right down to the t. No two people are exactly similar, no two relationships are either. If you blindly follow what others are doing you will be causing far more harm than good.
