How many times did you allow others opinions of you to keep you from being the person you deep down inside know you should be?
How many times did you allow others opinions of you distract you from your own path in life?
“Don’t let the noise of others opinions drown out your own inner voice.” ~ Steve Jobs
Others opinions of you are just that – their own opinions, and even though you might think that their opinions of you matter, they really don’t.
“What people in the world think of you is really none of your business.” ~ Martha Graham
Here are 6 reasons why others opinions of you don’t matter at all:
1. It’s the small minds who are concern with what other people are doing.
Eleanor Roosevelt said it best with these words: “Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.” And it’s true. When you’re busy living and loving your life, you have little or no time left to talk about what other people are doing. And if somebody is concern with who you are and how you are living your life, it’s only because they don’t have anything better to do with their time.
2. Their opinion of you comes from a place of insecurity.
The people who are concerned with what others are doing, are usually insecure people who haven’t yet found a way to embrace with grace all that life created them to be. And because they feel lost and disconnected from their Truth, and their core, they talk, not because they have something to say, but because they want to be heard. They want to feel acknowledged and they want to be seen…
3. Don’t take it personally.
To know that there are people who think that they know more than you about who you are and how you should live your life, can be quite irritating. And even though your mind might try to convince you that you should get all upset, angry and worked up, it’s important to learn how to no longer take things personally.
4. It’s not about you, it’s about them.
How other people see you is mostly a reflection of who they themselves are. And if their hearts are pure, and their intentions good and honest, they will also see you as being pure, good and honest. If not, they will only see what’s dark, bad and wrong with you. Don’t take it personally.
5. People see what they want to see.
No matter how hard you will try, and no matter how good of a person you are, you will never be able to please everyone. There will always be someone who has a problem with you and how you do things. The important thing is for you to be yourself. To honor all that life created you to be. To live your life in a way that feels right to you. And to constantly remind yourself that people see what they want to see.
6. Others opinions of you should never be more important than your opinion of yourself.
Your opinion of yourself is all that matters. So walk in Truth. Live with integrity. Go where your Soul needs you to go. Dare to become all that life created you to be. And know that “Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds. The mediocre mind is incapable of understanding the man who refuses to bow blindly to conventional prejudices and chooses instead to express his opinions courageously and honestly.” ~ Albert Einstein
